Volunteer Opportunities at the Sharon Historical Society
![]()
The Sharon Historical Society depends upon its volunteers for help on tasks
from cataloging collections to stuffing envelopes. We are a vibrant, growing
organization with so many tasks to be accomplished that there is a job to fit
practically every interest! Volunteer opportunities range from short-term time
commitments for special events to regularly scheduled hours working with our
archives or collections.
If you see something in the following list that piques your interest, please
call or e-mail Liz Shapiro.
Your name will be added to the volunteer register and you will be contacted
shortly to schedule a convenient time to come in, take a look around, and discuss
your needs and interests.
The museum collection consists of several thousand artifacts
including decorative arts, fine art, furniture, textiles, memorabilia,
tools, etc. Many of these objects have never been cataloged or
added to the museum collection. We are always looking for people
who are interested in database management. If you like "things"
and want to learn more about research techniques, preservation
and restoration, this may be the perfect opportunity.
Time Commitment: six hours per month.
Thanks to past volunteer , much of the paper collection of
original documents and photographs are sorted and stored according
to subject themes. Because we frequently receive acquisitions
of family papers, etc., there is always sorting, reading, transcribing
and archival storage tasks to accomplish.
Time Commitment: six hours per month.
We are committed to frequent and changing exhibits throughout
the year. Exhibit related volunteer opportunities range from curating
your own show on a topic of interest to designing exhibit layout
and graphics to assisting with the preparation and mounting of
objects for exhibition.
Time Commitment: As needed.
The "newest" feature of our newsletter is the Sharon
Centerfold, a 1-2 page article on some aspect of Sharon history.
Let your imagination and our collections be your guide-we're always
looking for interested authors.
